Change ahead as Facebook focusses on sociability

The crux of it: Facebook is changing its goal from helping us find relevant content to helping us have more meaningful social interactions.

Zuckerberg says that he "feels a responsibility to make sure our services aren’t just fun to use, but also good for people’s well-being.”

Zuckerberg again:

"Video and other public content have exploded on Facebook in the past couple of years. Since there’s more public content than posts from your friends and family, the balance of what’s in News Feed has shifted away from the most important thing Facebook can do — help us connect with each other.”

So what will Facebook show us more of?

Facebook will prioritise posts that inspire back-and-forth discussion in the comments, shares, reactions and in general, more content from family, friends and groups.

On the other hand, Facebook will show us LESS public content, including videos and other posts from publishers or businesses.

I can assume it's going to become harder again for us to get reach. I would also assume Facebook ad prices will rise as competition to get that sacred newsfeed exposure increases.

Basically, Facebook is focusing on us using the platform to be social, and will show us more of the content that enables us to do this.
